Almost 20 years ago I was introduced to a writer, Ann Weems. Her many books of poetry and liturgy have been a source of reflection and contemplation. I found a book on my shelf entitled Kneeling in Jerusalem, (©1992 Westminster/John Knox Press) this book of her poetry had become just another book on my shelf, yet the other day I pulled it off and dusted it off and opened it. On page 20 I again found this short poem entitled Lent.
Lent is a time to take the time
to let the power of our faith story take hold of us,
a time to let the events
get up and walk around in us,
a time to intensify
our living unto Christ,
a time to hover over
the thoughts of our hearts.
a time to place our feet in the streets of Jerusalem
Or to walk along the sea and listen to his word,
a time to touch his robe
And feel the healing surge through us,
a time to ponder and a time to wonder…
Lent is a time to allow a fresh new taste of God!
This short poem reminds us as we live in the season of Lent that one focusis time! Time! We are called to make a choice to take the time in our lives to be with God. Make time to read God’s Word, time to pray in silence, in song and in tears if needed. Time to really be with God this Lent! I call you this day to find TIME!
